Best Time of Year for Engagement Photos?

When planning your engagement photoshoot at South Beach South Haven, it’s essential to consider the timing and the seasonal changes. The beach’s popularity peaks during the summer months, with warmer weather and longer daylight hours. However, if you prefer a more private and intimate experience, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring or fall when the beach is less crowded. Each season offers its own unique charm, from vibrant sunflowers in summer to colorful foliage in autumn, ensuring that your photos reflect the beauty of the time of year.

Best Time of Day for Photos at South Beach?

Every photographer is different. My personal opinion is that Lake Michigan is perfect any time in the afternoon into the evening because the sun is moving over the lake to the West. My personal photography style is light and bright, so I prefer more sun and like to go anytime between 2 – 5 pm but will start an engagement session as late as 6 pm. Again, this really depends on your photographer and what their photography style is because some would prefer to go later than 6 pm.

Here are my specific preferences based on the time of year:

  • March – April – 1 – 3pm
  • May – August 2 – 6pm
  • September 2 – 5pm
  • October 2 – 4pm
  • November – December 1 – 3pm

To make the most of your engagement photoshoot at South Beach South Haven, it’s crucial to plan ahead. Start by selecting a professional photographer experienced in capturing beach and outdoor shoots. Coordinate your outfits to complement the beach’s natural colors, opting for light, airy fabrics. Consider bringing props like beach blankets or even a picnic setup to add personality and variety to your photos. Lastly, don’t forget to relax, be yourselves, and let the love you share shine through in your pictures.

Here are the basics of everything you might like to know about South Beach:

Where to Park?

There is convenient parking right down to the water’s edge. You’ll find that there is a fee which will be posted everywhere from May 15 – September 15 from 9 am – 6 pm. This means that if you decide to go after 6 pm, there is no parking fee at all. However, please do not let it deter you because it is relatively cheap and easy to park here within those hours.

Where Can You Change Outfits?

There are a few options for changing outfits at South Beach. 1 – The public restroom. Please do remember, this is a public restroom on the beach, the likelihood that it’s going to be the most glamorous is minimal but it can be used. There will more than likely be sand and some lake water on the floor, but they do have a wheelchair accessible bathroom stall that would be big enough to change in. 2 – In your car. There are places in the parking area where you can park or you can go into the backseat to change. Both of these options are very popular for my couples. Alternatively, I also have a pop-up tent named Poppy that is easy to set up and provides privacy for changing. If you’d like to have one for yourself, you can find it using this direct link.

Is This Location Dog Friendly?

Yes, South Beach South Haven is a dog-friendly location. You can bring your furry friend along and include them in your engagement photoshoot, creating even more precious memories.
