Traverse City Michigan Wedding | Cassandra & Larry

An Intimate and Emotional Traverse City Michigan Wedding: Cassandra & Larry’s Perfect Day

When I think of Cassandra and Larry’s wedding day, two words immediately come to mind: emotionally intimate. After 15 incredible years together, how do you even begin to describe the deep feelings between two people who have shared so many milestones? From buying their first home to becoming seamlessly woven into each other’s families and friend groups, it’s hard for anyone to remember a time when they weren’t together.

Their Traverse City destination wedding was truly intimate, with fewer than 50 close friends and family members gathered to celebrate the couple against the stunning backdrop of Grand Traverse Bay. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, reflecting Cassandra and Larry’s personalities, with the unique charm of Northern Michigan adding that special touch.

The Perfect Start to Their Wedding Day

I started the day with Cassandra, capturing the excitement as she finished getting her hair and makeup done. The room was filled with joy and anticipation as I photographed the beautifully crafted details, including their custom invitation suite featuring a painting of the Schooner Manitou Ship by Studio G. Cassandra had also created unique shell designs, adding a personal, coastal vibe to the décor. One of my favorite details? Larry’s meteorite ring from Sweden—a nod to Cassandra’s heritage and an out-of-this-world design that he hadn’t yet seen.

Next, I met up with Larry, where his dad and best man were busy ensuring every detail was just right. Like most grooms, Larry was feeling those pre-wedding jitters, but thanks to Brad and Larry Sr., the mood was light until it was finally time to see his bride.

A Stunning First Look by Grand Traverse Bay

With help from her sister and mom, Cassandra slipped into her stunning gown from Bombshell Bridal Boutique, complete with a gorgeous pearl overlay and matching veil. Standing on her suite’s balcony at Park Place Hotel, overlooking Grand Traverse Bay, I could hardly contain my own excitement—my best friend was about to knock her soon-to-be husband off his feet, and he had no idea what was coming.

We headed to one of my favorite secluded spots along the water for their first look. When Larry turned around to see Cassandra, the surprise and love in his eyes were absolutely priceless. They looked like they had stepped straight out of a magazine, giggling, hugging, and talking quietly as they took in this moment together.

A Joyous Ceremony at Discovery Pier

After a peaceful photo session along the marina docks, where the waves gently lapped against the shore and the sun kissed their love story, we moved to Discovery Pier for the ceremony. There was an air of excitement as guests greeted Cassandra and Larry before the festivities officially began. Colorful outfits and bright smiles were seen everywhere I looked.

After boarding, the crew from Traverse Tall Ship Company added a unique and fun touch, getting guests involved by helping raise the sails with spirited chants. The energy was high, but when Cassandra walked down the aisle with her dad, emotions took over. Larry’s tears were contagious, setting off a wave of emotion that spread through the crowd. His sister officiated the ceremony, and though I’ll keep their personal vows private, Cassandra later told me it was her favorite part of the day—filled with so much love and, yes, more tears from Larry!

Celebrating at Park Place Hotel

After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate! We returned to the top tower of Park Place Hotel, which boasts the best view in Traverse City. The nautical-themed reception was perfect for a social gathering, with drinks, cookies, and a cake topper that everyone adored. As the evening unfolded, the Best Man and Maid of Honor gave earnest toasts, recalling memories of growing up with the bride and groom, and celebrating how perfectly they complement each other.

The surprise of the evening came when Cassandra’s dad gave an emotional toast, reflecting on the honor of walking his daughter down the aisle and expressing his admiration for Larry. It was a touching moment that had the room tearing up all over again.

But the tears didn’t last long! Soon after, the dance floor opened up, drinks were flowing, and everyone relaxed into a night of laughter and joy. With such a small, tight-knit group, it was clear that everyone got a chance to congratulate the happy couple.

Love & Laughter Forever

And so, I have to stop writing here, because otherwise, I’ll never be able to wrap up this post! What can I say? It’s my best friend’s wedding day, and there was just so much love and happiness to capture.

Cassandra and Larry, congratulations to you both! It was an honor to witness your love story unfold in the most beautiful place—Traverse City. I hope everyone enjoys scrolling through your day as much as I enjoyed capturing it.

Love you both!
