Engagement Sessions I Have Photographed Here
- Alyssa & Joe – A Fall Engagement Session!
- Samantha & Andrew – A Summer Engagement Session!
Where to Park?
First and foremost, this is a State Park so when it comes to parking, a recreation passport is best but you can also get a daily pass. Those prices range.
The best place to park is in the first lot on your LEFT. It’s the lot that is closest to the lighthouse. Not the camper one on the right. That will give you the best walking access to the lighthouse which we will be using in a lot of photos!
If you have ever thought about getting a Recreation Passport, I have one and think they’re great! Click here to see how to get one yourself!
Here is how the funds are used:
- State parks and recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, trails, and boat launches.
- Historic sites within state parks.
- Outdoor recreation facilities and opportunities.
- Local park improvements via Recreation Passport Grants. Ten percent of the funds (nearly $2 million) is awarded to local communities for park development and improvement projects.
Best Time of Year for Engagement Photos?
In my opinion, summer is the ideal time for Grand Haven State Park Engagement Photos? If you prefer slightly cooler weather, consider May or June, as well as September. October and November weather can be unpredictable, so if you choose those months, it’s best to schedule a backup date in case of inclement weather.
Best Time of Day for Photos?
The optimal time of day depends on your preferences and schedules. Here are the start times I recommend based on the time of year. Please note that my suggestions are based on my light and bright photography style, and it’s always a good idea to check with your own photographer for their preferred timings.
Here are my preferred start time for engagement photos at Grand Haven State Park:
- March – April: 1 pm – 3 pm
- May – August: 2 pm – 6 pm
- September: 2 pm – 5 pm
- October: 2 pm – 4 pm
- November – December: 1 pm – 3 pm

Where to Change Outfits?
You have a few options for changing outfits. Here are the possibilities:
- Public Restrooms: There is one available next parking area. I’ve outlined it in the photo below!
- Your Car: You can find places in the parking area where you can change or use the backseat for privacy. Both options are popular among my couples.
- Pop-up Tent: I have a convenient pop-up tent, lovingly named Poppy, which is easy to set up, and one person can change at a time. If you’d like to have one for yourself, you can find it directly through this link
Is This Location Dog Friendly?
Yes! Grand Haven State Park is a dog-friendly beach! You will need to keep your pup(s) on a leash.
